We are thrilled to present several different resources
to enhance your Advent season - Enjoy!
MUSIC
"Advent: Vol.1" is a beautiful combination of new original material and fresh arrangements of familiar carols.
It was created by over 30 different collaborators that belong to our NLD creative community!
During the month of December, we will present a brand new song during each of our Sunday
services (9am + 11am). These songs will also be released for free streaming & free download right here!
FINE ART
We have commissioned four of our fabulous artists to create beautiful original visual/fine art for Advent this year.
The artwork will be featured in our lobby each Sunday during December.
Also, to help support our seasonal giving campaign, 'For The Sake of the City', we have turned the visual/fine art into Advent Cards. The 5"x 7" folded cards (blank inside) come with a white envelope - included on the back of the card is the information of the artist, art medium, Scripture, and brief story behind the painting. They will be available for a suggested donation of $3/ea. or $5 for 2.
GIVING
This year, we have an opportunity to help fund and expand our outreach giving for 2019. Some of the specific outreach projects and partnerships we will be highlighting this month are the building for Nueva Vida, the expansion of Mary’s Home, the launch of a new New Life congregation on the east side of our city, and a new partnership in Central America to help turn the tide of poverty and violence.

Advent Devotional
WHAT IS ADVENT?
Have you ever wondered, “what is Advent?” Is it a different word for Christmas? Is it a word that expands Christmas to include more of December? Is it only the Holy, reverent, or maybe even the solemn parts of the Holiday season?
The literal definition of the word derives from the latin word adventus - which means “the coming”, or "arrival”.
Advent is the season that includes the 4 Sundays leading up to Christmastide (the 12 days of Christmas). The specific practices of advent have varied throughout the ages, but the main themes of Advent include Love, Joy, Peace, & Hope.
For us at New Life Downtown (NLD), Advent is marked with both a sense of celebration, and a sense of anticipation. We celebrate and remember the arrival of Christ Jesus on earth, being born as a baby, of the Spirit, through the virgin Mary. We also are filled with a sense of anticipation and longing. For we are still awaiting the final arrival of Jesus & His kingdom; He has come, and He will come again - this is the essence of Advent.
